Common Questions
Am I welcome at Salem? YES! Unequivocally, with no strings attached, yes! God loves you and we would be delighted by your presence. Salem is often described as a family and like a good family there is room for everybody.
What are your children’s offerings? Salem has a children’s Sunday school class, taught by a rotating group of members. We also offer a nursery and children’s church for any families who would like their children to attend. Children attending children’s church will be led downstairs below the sanctuary after the children’s moment during the service. They are brought back to you during the closing hymn (or for communion on 1st Sundays). If you would like to keep your children with you during service, you are welcome to do so! Please don’t worry. Let them be kids & ask questions, sing, wander around, participate how they will. Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me,” (Matthew 19:14) and we wish the same.
Do you have a dress code? No! Jesus wore sandals and a robe. Come as you are.
Where should I sit? There are no assigned seats. Seat where you feel comfortable. You will have many people come over to meet you before and after service.
Do you offer Holy Communion? Yes. Like most United Methodist Churches, we celebrate Holy Communion on the first Sunday of the month. At Salem, we believe that the Lord’s Table is open to all and that you can meet Jesus spiritually in partaking the bread and juice (we use grape juice rather than wine so all may be safe and comfortable). Whether you be a lifetime member, a curious seeker, a bit suspicious, or somebody new to this whole organized religion business…you are welcome at the table.
What should I expect during worship? Salem practices a “traditional” style of worship. We join our voices in liturgy and hymns, which are led by our excellent choir and pianist. Our pastor reads scripture and preaches a sermon based on the scripture. We have a moment every service where we share joys as well as prayer needs with one another. If you are in need of prayer, our pastor or lay leader is happy to pray for you. Everything is in the bulletin, don’t worry!
Where should I park? We have 3 parking lots. On Salem Church Rd, you can park in the lower lot by the sanctuary or the upper lot by the fellowship hall. You can also find overflow parking across the street, but our members usually park there to leave space for you by the building.
Is Salem wheelchair accessible? Yes. We have handicap parking in the lower lot. You’ll find a ramp on the back left side of the building, which leads to the sanctuary.
